사우샘프턴대학교는 영국 잉글랜드 남동부에 위치한 햄프셔주 사우샘프턴에
있는 공립 연구중심 대학교입니다. 약칭은 소턴(Soton)입니다. 잉글랜드 남동권에서 가장 규모가 큰 사우샘프턴 대학은 7개의
자체 도서관 시설을 갖춘 캠퍼스를 갖고 있으며 메인 캠퍼스는 사우샘프턴의 하이필드 지역에 위치해 있습니다.
사우샘프턴대학교는 연구를 선도하는 24개 명문대학으로 구성된 영국 대학교들의 협력 단체인 러셀 그룹(Russell
Group)의 창립 회원입니다. 주요 항구도시 대학들로 구성된 포트-시티 대학 리그(Port-City University League)와
세계 대학 네트워크에도 소속되어 있습니다.
사우샘프턴대학교는 2019년 QS 세계 대학 순위에서 96위, 타임스 고등교육(THE) 순위에서 세계 118위, CWTS 레이든 순위에서 125위를 차지했으며 2017년 유에스뉴스&월드리포트 순위에서는 세계 97위, 영국 10위로 평가됐습니다. 사우샘프턴대학교는 영국의 공학 분야의 선도적인 대학으로 꼽힙니다. 가디언지는 2010년 6월 이 대학을 영국 기계공학과 항공 공학, 해군 건축, 전자공학, 전기공학 부문에서 각각 1위로 선정했습니다.
