학교 소개
워릭 대학교는 영국 잉글랜드 웨스트미들랜드(West Midlands) 주 코번트리(Coventry)에 있는 공립 종합대학교이며 스스로를 ‘연구 선도 교육기관(research-led institution)’이라고 부를 정도로 연구 분야에 강점을 가지고 있는 대학교입니다.
투자은행 같은 일부 인기 고용부문에서 옥스퍼드대와 케임브리지대, 런던정경대(LSE), 유니버시티칼리지 런던(UCL) 등과 함께 상위 5개 대학교로 이루어진 '마법 서클'에 속하는 것으로 간주됩니다. 정치학과는 영국 정치학협회의 '빅5'에 포함되며, 워릭대학교는 영연방대학협회와 유럽대학협회, 러셀그룹 등의 회원으로 활동합니다.
5년에 한 번 영국 대학 연구기관을 중심으로 진행되는 연구실적평가(Research Assessment Exercise)에서 워릭 대학교는 2008년 영국 7위, 미들랜드 지역 1위에 올랐습니다. 또한 워릭 대학교는 각종 대학 순위에서 영국 10위권에 자리하고 있으며 QS세계대학랭킹(QS World University Rankings)에서 영국 9위, 세계 50위에 각각 랭크됐습니다. 2000년 토니 블레어(Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, 1953~) 영국 총리는 이 대학을 방문한 빌 클린턴(Bill Clinton, 1946~) 미국 대통령에게 “워릭 대학교는 역동성과 질(質), 그리고 기업가적 열정을 가진 영국 대학의 표상” 이라고 극찬을 한 일도 있었습니다.
